MUSCATINE, Iowa -- Michael Gene "Mike" O'Brien, 49, of Muscatine, died Friday, Sept. 27, 2002, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, at the Geo. M.  Wittich-Lewis Funeral Home. The Rev. Bruce Martin is officiating. Burial in Greenwood Cemetery and a luncheon will be held in the Wittich-Lewis Community Room following the committal service.  

Visitation is 4 to 7 p. m. Tuesday at the funeral home.  A memorial has been established for the Kidney Foundation.

Mr. O'Brien was born on October 8, 1952 in Muscatine, the son of L.E. & Charlene Gordy O'Brien.  He married Mardell Rowe on May 6, 1972 in Muscatine.  

He was a member of the Muscatine Quarterback Club, Muscatine Moose Lodge and Elks Lodge No. 304.  

He enjoyed his Harley Motorcycle, golfing and fishing.  

He began working with his father in the family business in 1972 and in 1984 became the owner and operator of Muscatine Electric till 2001.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Christopher and his wife, Kelly, of North Liberty and Tyler of Cedar Falls; his mother, Charlene O'Brien of Muscatine; and one sister, Sue McGowan and her husband, Jim, of Bettendorf.
