Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Saturday, July 22, 2006, at the St. Mary Church, 419 Green Street.  Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday, July 21, 2006, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home with a Rosary Prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Ruth Anne Bekker, 54, of Muscatine, died Tuesday, July 18, 2006, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City.

Honorary Bearers will be Thomas Summitt, Ralph Meerdink, and David Goetzman.  Casket Bearers will be Jacob White, Tom Guck, Kevin Guck, Barry Young, Gary Wieskamp, Bob Schaapveld, and Jason Summitt.  Burial will be St. Mary's Cemetery, Nichols.

Memorials may be made to the Muscatine Community Y Special Olympics Program.  

Ruth Anne was born on March 25, 1952, in Muscatine, the daughter of Bernard Joseph and Mildred Gertrude Schaapveld Bekker.

Ruth Anne was a graduate of the University of Iowa with a Bachelor's Degree.

She was a member of the St. Mary Church; she worked with the American Red Cross Disaster Action Team, and was involved with the Big Brother/Big Sister Program.

Survivors include two brothers, Bill Bekker of Davenport, and Donald Bekker of Muscatine; two nieces, Lisa Bauer and husband, Floyd, of Davenport, and Cindy White of Muscatine; great niece and great nephews Caitlin Bauer, Brandon Bauer, and Jacob White; and many special friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Elizabeth Bekker and Marilyn Bekker, and one brother, Eugene Bekker
